Student employment within the Office of Civil Rights Compliance provides meaningful opportunities for students to gain professional experience while supporting the University’s commitment to community, access, and respectful learning and working environments. OCRC student employees contribute to important educational and outreach efforts while developing valuable skills in communication, organization, and professionalism.

Gender Violence Prevention Graduate Assistantship

Office of Civil Rights Compliance Student Assistant

Position Type: Support/Hybrid

Reports to: Brenda White, Investigator and Prevention Specialist (brenda.white@uni.edu

Terms of Employment:

  • For the Fall semester 20 hours per week
  • For the Spring semester 20 hours per week

Compensation:

  • Graduate Assistantship stipend for full-time appointment (20 hours per week). Pay is biweekly and stipend is prorated depending on start date.
  • Graduate Assistants and their spouses may qualify for in-state tuition. Spouses must submit marriage certificate to gradcollege@uni.edu.
  • Graduate Assistants may receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates campus needs for gender violence-related educational presentations and awareness programs; responds to requests and works with staff and advocacy agencies for scheduling; and refers requests to other units as necessary.
  • Assists with developing and facilitating on-campus presentations and programming in classrooms, for student organizations, and for similar requests; and partners with subject matter experts as appropriate.  
  • Tracks all programming, including source, date, speaker, number of people served, topic and outline of presentation for Clery Act purposes; alerts Title IX Officer of request trends, unmet needs, and issues/ideas that arise during events; and provides input into improvement of programs and overall quality control.
  • Plans and implements annual programs and exhibits, including What Were You Wearing and The Art of CHANGE; designs and/or updates communication and promotional materials; and coordinates with campus partners to continually expand outreach.
  • Develops and executes new programming, promotional materials, and communication campaigns; and partners with Green Dot Graduate Assistant as needed to carry out Green Dot workshops and promotional activities.
  • Maintains and updates documentation of position duties, compiling procedural guides for each program or duty.

General Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time (enrolled in at least 9 eligible credits), degree-seeking student in a UNI's graduate program. Online students able to commute to campus are eligible for assistantships.
  • Be regularly admitted without provisions to degree status in a graduate degree program. 
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75.
  • Have an official transcript on file and be fully declared in their graduate major before the start of the assignment.
  • Must meet and complete I-9 eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must complete UNI’s mandatory employee training timely.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have ability to keep information confidential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking/presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology.

  • Program Planning: Plans and implements the campus-wide Green Dot program aimed at the prevention of gender violence; engages the campus network of faculty, staff, and students to support Green Dot efforts; communicates with Green Dot representatives as to program protocol; and consults with other Green Dot institutions to learn best practices.
  • Facilitation of training and events: Schedules and coordinates Green Dot training and programs for the campus community; responsible for all event details; and partners with Green Dot facilitators.
  • Program Evaluation: Conducts assessment and data tracking for ongoing evaluation of the position; creates and maintains attendance and related data for training and events; analyzes data to understand the campus-wide impact of the program.
  • Public Speaking: Delivers presentations to faculty, staff, and students about gender violence and the Green Dot program itself.
  • Campus Outreach: Coordinates events and continuous promotion of Green Dot; reaches out to groups to build awareness of Green Dot; collaborates with NISG’s Director of Gender Violence Prevention to advocate for Green Dot and culture change with students and student organizations; organizes educational resources and promotes them to the campus community via the UNI website and social media; develops community partnerships to support Green Dot concepts in all spaces that UNI students occupy; creates and carries out promotional opportunities in order to keep Green Dot messaging active at all times.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, public speaking, and the ability to work professionally with students. Strong verbal and written skills using clear, accurate, and professional communication are essential.
  • Must have ability to keep information confidential and be dependable and reliable with excellent follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Experience discussing and educating others on the topic of gender-based violence strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week; some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Position Type: Part-time

Terms of Employment:

  • For the academic semesters (Fall and Spring).

Compensation:

  • $10.00 per hour depending on skills and experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs office tasks and assists with various projects including, but not limited to:
    • data entry;
    • answering phones;
    • greeting visitors;
    • editing webpages and other communication pieces;
    • filing;
    • and other tasks and projects as assigned. 

General Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to keep information confidential.
  • Work-study welcome.
  • Office experience helpful but not required.
  • Attention to detail required.
